Body-Mind Centering® is an integrated and embodied approach to movement, the body and consciousness. Developed by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, it is an experiential study based on the embodiment and application of anatomical, physiological, psychophysical and developmental principles, utilizing movement, touch, voice and mind. Its uniqueness lies in the specificity with which each of the body systems can be personally embodied and integrated, the fundamental groundwork of developmental re-patterning, and the utilization of a body-based language to describe movement and body-mind relationships.
The study of Body-Mind Centering® is a creative process in which embodiment of the material is explored in the context of self-discovery and openness. Each person is both the student and the subject matter and the underlying goal is to discover the ease that underlies transformation.
The Body-Mind Centering® approach has an almost unlimited number of areas of application. It is currently being used by people in movement, dance, yoga, bodywork, somatic studies, physical and occupational therapy, psychotherapy, child development, education, voice, music, art, meditation, athletics and other body-mind disciplines.
Body-Mind Centering® (BMC®) belongs to the practices of the “Somatics”, a term derived from the ancient greek word “soma” (σώμα) which means the whole entity of a person, and according to the great philosopher Aristotle, it encompasses all of his/her psychological, mental, spiritual and physical attributes.
In Greece, until 2019, Body-Mind Centering® (BMC®) had been taught within a series of artistic educative and social contexts, workshops or seminars by BMC® associates such as Lambrini Konstantinou, Janet Amato, Tatiana Loverdou, Vera Orlock, Rose-Anne Sprading and Sarita Beraha, among several other educators and practicioners who have introduced the BMC® in Greece. In 2015 “Dansarte” hosted a seminar with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen.
In 2019, we embarked on our new educational endeavour hosting the first Somatic Movement Education (SME) course of the two year SME cycle, hoping to further enrich and inspire the field of somatic education in Greece.
We warmly invite you to join internationally acclaimed educators on a wonderful journey of embodied experience.
The Program Director in Greece is Janet Amato, while the rest of the educational program staff includes an experienced group of BMC® Teachers.
All courses are taught both in Greek and in English.
